Bird (or more likely) squirrel feeders

Greetings Parents of Room 10!
Last Friday we made bird feeders with our 2nd grade buddies and hang them outside our room.  While I cannot be certain how many birds actually took advantage of these treats, I can confirm that many squirrels will be well-fed for a while.  At any rate, I am attaching some photos of the kids making and hanging their pinecone feeders.  Enjoy!      Lester and class

Happy New Year!

Greetings from Room 10!
The first Blog for 2105 will include two events that culminated 2014 in Room 10.  The children have been studying the Respiratory System since the beginning of December.  Their unit test will be scheduled when we return to school on Monday.  However, shortly before we left for break, Dr. Nigam, Jeevan's mom, kindly agreed to join our class for a very detailed review of the respiratory system.  In fact, the children thoroughly enjoyed sharing all that they know about their lungs and breathing process.  Dr. Nigam filled in a few gaps and answered a myriad of questions.  It was a wonderful way to wind-down the unit in preparation for the final assessment.  I have included several photos of Dr. Nigam's presentation.

Each year for the last 15 years, Ann Bacher and I have "buddied-up" for a variety of activities throughout the school year.  Sadly, this was our last Dreidel Extravaganza. I am sure you have heard that Mrs. Bacher is retiring in a few short weeks.  I will miss my good friend very much!!! Besides being our buddy class for more than a decade, Mrs. Bacher was my daughter Shelley's Kindergarten teacher.  So she has a special place in the Betors' hearts.  I have attached several photos of our classes playing dreidel.

The new year will bring a lot of exciting academic challenges as we begin American History and Westward Expansion, Whales, Ocean Book Club and SAT Vocabulary.  Details for each of the aforementioned will be provided.  Also, I will be looking for help as we finalize our narrative essays.  Specific dates/times will be sent home with the children.
Don't forget that our first rehearsals for "Everything's Coming Up Roses" begin this Tuesday!
                                                                                                       Happy 2015!  Lester B.

DARE Graduation

Greetings from Room 10,
I am thrilled to post a couple of photos from our DARE Graduation.  Maya and Jeevan did an amazing job reading their DARE essays, and it was a pleasure watching each student receive his/her DARE diploma.
As a reminder, this Wednesday, December 10th is our first full-cast and crew rehearsal for Everything's Coming Up Roses.  Please pick up your child promptly at 5pm in the music room.  I would recommend that you send in a second snack so they can have a quick bite before we go downstairs at 3:30pm.  Pat Eberle, our accompanist will be on hand to play the songs for the children.  They will receive their script, and they are expected to have their lines memorized by our next rehearsal, January 6th.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend!                                                  Lester Betor & class

Peace Assembly and Halloween 2014

Dear Parents of Room 10,
Our 2014 Peace Assembly was celebrated on the one gorgeous day we had last week.  Great planning on the part of our Art, PE and Music departments.  Here is a photo taken by Mr. Burns from the roof our our school.
I am attaching a group of "crazy" Halloween photos, most of which were taken while the kids were dancing.  They are not the greatest photos I have included in our Blog, but it's hard to get perfect pictures when the kids were dancing so hard!  Also, the first photo is of our new student, Mark.  He got into the spirit of Halloween by wearing a pair of fangs.  Welcome to Mark and his family!!

It's hard to believe that Aubrey and Ryann could work with all that dancing going on....but they did.

Have a wonderful weekend!  Don't forget that Tuesday is a 1/2 day.    Lester B. and class
