O' Canada

Greetings from Room 10,
Last week the children attended a presentation sponsored by the Scotia-Glenville Traveling Museum which focused on our neighbor to the north: Canada.  I wanted to share a few photos I took during the hands-on portion of the event.
In addition, I am posting a few pictures I took the day after the Kidnastics Show. Unfortunately, not everyone was present when I took the pictures.
       Enjoy!

Bird (or more likely) squirrel feeders

Greetings Parents of Room 10!
Last Friday we made bird feeders with our 2nd grade buddies and hang them outside our room.  While I cannot be certain how many birds actually took advantage of these treats, I can confirm that many squirrels will be well-fed for a while.  At any rate, I am attaching some photos of the kids making and hanging their pinecone feeders.  Enjoy!      Lester and class

Happy New Year!

Greetings from Room 10!
The first Blog for 2105 will include two events that culminated 2014 in Room 10.  The children have been studying the Respiratory System since the beginning of December.  Their unit test will be scheduled when we return to school on Monday.  However, shortly before we left for break, Dr. Nigam, Jeevan's mom, kindly agreed to join our class for a very detailed review of the respiratory system.  In fact, the children thoroughly enjoyed sharing all that they know about their lungs and breathing process.  Dr. Nigam filled in a few gaps and answered a myriad of questions.  It was a wonderful way to wind-down the unit in preparation for the final assessment.  I have included several photos of Dr. Nigam's presentation.

Each year for the last 15 years, Ann Bacher and I have "buddied-up" for a variety of activities throughout the school year.  Sadly, this was our last Dreidel Extravaganza. I am sure you have heard that Mrs. Bacher is retiring in a few short weeks.  I will miss my good friend very much!!! Besides being our buddy class for more than a decade, Mrs. Bacher was my daughter Shelley's Kindergarten teacher.  So she has a special place in the Betors' hearts.  I have attached several photos of our classes playing dreidel.

The new year will bring a lot of exciting academic challenges as we begin American History and Westward Expansion, Whales, Ocean Book Club and SAT Vocabulary.  Details for each of the aforementioned will be provided.  Also, I will be looking for help as we finalize our narrative essays.  Specific dates/times will be sent home with the children.
Don't forget that our first rehearsals for "Everything's Coming Up Roses" begin this Tuesday!
                                                                                                       Happy 2015!  Lester B.
