What I Would Like to Tell My Son's New Fifth Grade Teacher

Greetings from Room 10!
I just read this blog written by Allison Tate entitled "What I Would Like to Tell My Son's New Fifth Grade Teacher" and loved it!!!  It is a very heart-felt and timely entry, and I wanted to share it with you.  Each year I strive to strike a balance between treating my 5th graders like elementary school students and emerging middle school students.  I always tell my students that it is my job to, not only deliver the 5th grade curriculum in an engaging and memorable way, but also to prepare each of them for entering middle school.  And I LOVE doing it!!  When you have a few minutes, read Allison's blog.  I am certain you will feel the same way.  Enjoy!  Lester B.

Welcome to 5B -- Room 10

Dear Parents of Room 10,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to your child’s 5th grade classroom.  Being an elementary school teacher at Slingerlands fulfills my lifelong dream, and I treasure each and every moment working with my students in our classroom.  Moreover, being a 5th grade teacher is a special honor because I will have the opportunity to experience and enjoy the many wonderful activities and special events that occur in grade 5, and to share your child’s last year of elementary school.
I am looking forward to meeting you at our Open House on September 13th at 7:30 in the classroom.  Be prepared to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences and parties!  In addition, you will have the opportunity to visit your child's math teacher for a brief presentation at 8:15pm.  The evening will close with a presentation about Nature's Classroom in our cafeteria.
See you soon! Lester B.
